The only place I intend to fire it is at the range.

I will say this...if I'm properly understanding what I'm reading online, and I think I am, my NY Permit to Carry Concealed is valid here. So technically, even though I haven't touched a gun in 4 years, I could walk into a gunshop tomorrow and buy a pistol, because you don't need a pistol permit if you have the permit to carry. That seems ridiculous to me.

I'm signing up for a Basic Safety Class. I'm not a big fan of the NRA, but they do run a good class. After that will be the next level safety class. Then the class to get the certification to get an NC permit to carry concealed. Not that I intend to, but I'm a big believer in keeping my options open.

There is nothing wrong for protection purposes and you seem level headed but what happens when the hot head itching to use his toy gets into an argument with another hot head. I'd rather no one have them and anyone caught using a gun gets a 20 year minimum sentence.

See thats the thing, those that have the CCW permit have to pass tests and understand the seriousness of the license. They are not the kind of people that get into a hotheaded argument and reach for their firearms.

There was a dude recently in Texas if I'm not mistaken who pulled out his gun and shot someone in a pizza shop over an argument. He had a valid CCW permit. The more permits get out the higher chance of nutbars getting through the cracks.
