For over a decade I have been going to thehungersite.com and clicking daily. Sponsors donate a cup of food to needy individuals in third world countries for each click. I know that they hope you will buy something from their online store, but it is not a prerequisite and I never do.

Since it's inception they have added other similar sites (e.g. the Animal Rescue site = Cardinal Fang, the Veterans site = Papa Smurf, the Rainforest site = If You Seek Amy, etc.).

It only takes a couple of minutes each day and where else could you help women who can't afford mammograms in the US get proper screening or help better the literacy rate in the US, etc. all in a days work. I do it every morning and that way I start my day off right.

Please take the time to check it out and do your good deed for the day!

I'm concerned that sites like these do more harm than good. It smacks of slacktivism. I know we're all busy, but if there is a cause that you truly believe in, it takes time, labour, and money. Clicking on a link after reading some reassuring marketing phrases may make you feel good, but will it actually help those in need?

I work when I can in supporting the organizations I believe in. My funds are relatively meager, so most of my donation is through time and labour. Even then, I often feel like the difference I make is meager and not enough.

I had to look up slacktivism (good word by the way). For the record, I agree with you to some extent, and although I've done volunteer work in the past with street involved youth, etc., I find that this is a good way for those who do not have the time or means to do so to still hopefully make a small difference. I recycle, even though I know it could end up in the dump anyway.

In a nutshell, it's a start and better than nothing.

I am too much of a chicken for that. The blood they take for my annual physical makes me queasy and they won't take a half pint (I've asked).

I am however registered with the "one match stem cell and marrow network" https://www.blood.ca/CentreApps/Int...page/you_can_be_the_one_match_to_save_a_life?. Relatives are not always a match and if they match you with anyone in the world, they will pay to send you there for the operation. That is the small world we now live in.
