It's called salary and benefit advancement. Everything is going up and up and up, do you expect salaries to stay frozen?

If market forces were allowed to work freely, people would be better off.

Yes and no

When it comes to private companies you can choose another place to shop, eat or invest.

HOWEVER when it comes to government employees you have little choice.
They want more money they get it by confiscating it from its citizens.
If you refuse to pay they jail you.

So while a free market will always adjust.
A group with the ability to confiscate your money as tax, never will.
