This is because Politicians are stupid. Let the cops do their jobs without fear of being called racists. Let them go into gang related areas and start cracking down. Zero tolerance on gun crimes with stiff jail time if even caught with a gun including if it's a 14 year old punk!

Year round schooling would never work as most gang bangers will not attend regardless of year round or once a week. More community programs would help if it is geared towards young lost kids who need hope and a place they feel they belong too.

The other problem is the feeling of being untouchable. We need to give Police more power and revamp the Young Offenders Act.

Take a page out of the OPP's manual. Put a patch on your back and ride a Harley across the 401 and see how long you last. We should allow the Police the same powers and racial profiling be damned! Allow the Police the powers to search the person regardless of age, if they look like a gang member they get searched for weapons. It's the same idea as Ride Checks but this time it's weapons checks!

Spend more money on "Edumacation" and much stiffer penalties for criminal behavior.

Without being flippant I seriously believe that a system of corporal punishment should be returned to society. Kids learn disrespectful behavior in the school system. The "you can't do anything to me because I am a minor" horseshit seems to breed a philosophy of being "untouchable" throughout life.
I never did anything too bad as a kid because i was afraid of getting an ass whipping from my old man.
I like the "3 strikes you're out" concept they have in the states but not for possession of pot. 1 minor and 2 felonies you are out. So some creep that goes on a crime spree.. You're out.

I would also return prison to what it USED to be. A place for punishment. First and second offenders can get a nice happy happy joy joy prison where they get to work like the chain gangs of the deep south. Third offense? Toss them with a bag of clothes and a pen knife up on Baffin Island and let them fend for themselves.

At least society would feel a lot better knowing that the Polar Bears would be well fed.

Gangs and drugs. Not sure community programs help more than but a few as peer pressures to join gangs are reported to be high. Not sure anyone has figured out anything that is really effective.

banning handguns makes sense on the surface but will have zero impact as all the guns being used by the gangs are illegally in their possesion to begin with, even without a ban.

Gang weapons are probably illegally acquired, but the argument is that banning handguns would reduce the availability of legally registered weapons for theft.

I think that the communities involve should be taking more responsibility for
the actions of their youth.

This feeling of fear not to talk to the police is a cop out ....
They really have to take the first step somewhere.....
The adults need to be more vigilant, and be role models...
To say "I do not want to talk to the Police because I need to live
beside my neighbor and they may hurt me....." is showing the
gangs are winning......

In an ideal world, sure. Wouldn't it be nice for all kids to grow up in a nuclear family with caring, involved parents who nurtured them and provided every opportunity to succeed in life?

Blame the irresponsible fathers as more than the women who are "stuck" raising the kids without help.

That's funny but sort of oddly true.

Hand guns aren't easy to get in Canada as it is. I would bet that 95% of all guns in the hands of criminals are illegally imported therefore any further restrictions on hand guns won't change anything.

Toughen gun laws and I don't mean a ridiculous gun or bullet ban. A law that states you get caught with a concealed weapon you have a minimum of 10 years to serve in jail from the ages of 13 and up. You commit a crime with a gun it's a minimum of 15 years. Add in giving the police the power to search without all the red tape if they suspect a young man of being a gang member and slowly guns will disappear.

Dammit, I'm going into politics!!

legalize prostitution and weed,
fair wages/benefits for anyone who wants a job and is willing to work,
lower corporate taxes for companies creating jobs and lord help the ones that don't:wink2:
