When I was sixteen... back int eh sixties, I hitched to Florida and back... it was a blast.

The last hitchhiker I piked up was a woman on highway 6 just south of the 401. I was heading southbound towards Hamilton. It didn't take her long to tell me her sad story... no money, kids hungry, no job... offered me a BJ for $50.

I refused her offer, mostly cause I was broke, and took her to where she wanted to go... just at Highway 5... I let her out at the light, and she promptly crossed the highway and took up hitching again northbound...

I suspect that was a regular thing for her...

Ah well...

I've never picked up a hitchhiker, but I have ended up getting a ride by accident.

In Windsor, I was coming back from an aikido class, and it was out in the middle of no where. I knew where the nearest bus stop was (Devonshire Mall), but wasn't sure how far away it was. I saw this lady leaving an office, so I approached her and asked how far away it was. It was how ever far away, but she was headed there, and she offered me a ride. As I was putting my bags in her car, she looked at the long thin bag. "What's in that?" "My sword and staff." "Oh....."

As

a single female I wouldn't pick up a hitchhiker. I had a friend in high school who was very much the type to help anyone who appeared to need it, to the extent that on trips we would have to yell at him that he couldn't help everyone and if we were ever to reach our destination on time he had to keep driving. I really admired him for having that attitude and might consider picking up a hitchhiker if I was travelling with another person, but on my own I would be too nervous. ​

I've hitchhiked in my teens. Cuz I had to.
The people who stopped and picked me up had done it themselves in the past and were 'paying it forward'. I can definitely relate. If I could now find all the people who helped me with a ride when I needed it most, I would do anything and everything I could to show them my gratitude.

I hitched some as a teen. Though I came from a string of small towns, so I'd often get picked up by people that vaguely knew me.

In turn I've picked up some folks that I vaguely knew who were hitching, and a few strangers. At this point I'm TTC only, so my ride picks a lot of strangers up.
