How Important is the Internet In Helping You Cope With Life?

While very few people use the internet to regularly proclaim their outright joy of life, many MANY others use and are dependent on the internet as a major coping mechanism in order to attempt to deal with all the negative, disappointing, or unsatisfactory aspects of their life when life starts to get the better of them, or when for lack of a better expression, they're simply 'over-matched' and/or 'in way over their head' in their life's endeavors.

Some may be weak of mind or spirit, some may be alone and/or lead a fairly solitary life, some may be social/political/religious misfits who can never seem to properly integrate with other members of the norm.

For whatever reason, the internet seems to be THE major outlet for self-therapy.

In good times, some will post 'happiness' or 'celebratory' pics on Facebook, Instagram, or SnapChat; they may send out positively-oriented broadcast emails; even the occasional, albeit limited Tweet. Comparatively speaking, these are generally few and far between.

In bad times, most will gravitate to the internet to seek sympathy, empathy, to solicit opinions, to debate philosophies and semantics, or take out their own misfortunes on others. By far the majority, in context.

The Mother of All Internet-based Coping Mechanisms? The personal 'Blog'.

While some blogs are informative, educational, insightful, and meaningful, more and more internet-based personal blogs are becoming nothing more than a digital vehicle from which to spew anger, transfer blame, vent frustrations, rant about personal crusades, and generally speaking - bitch, moan, and complain about their own personal misfortunes, or the poor outcomes resulting from their own bad decisions, or to attack others who in any meaningful way are unable to respond directly. Gratuitous and self-serving in the extreme. And highly self-satisfying.

So, all this being said, how important has the internet become for you as means of self-therapy when life sticks its foot up your ass and wiggles it around? Can you cope with life without the internet as a crutch? How important have social media sites become to you in order to feel like you have some measure of control over your life, the lives of others, or just life in general? If you write and maintain a blog, how dependent are you on that digital platform in terms of your ability to balance your emotions, process and deal with personal problems or issues away from live interactions with real people? Is this the way of the future, or is it simply a sign of a weaker intestinal fortitude now prevalent in modern day society?

Thoughts? Hmmmmmm

I never read blogs. Better things to do with my life.

I'm kind of with you on that one Guido. I'll read a blog by a recognized and endorsed industry leader, or a credentialed / accredited domain expert as they usually have some balanced thought and weight behind their perspectives, but I don't waste my time on social justice wanks who just seem to be perpetually on the rag about something / anything and who's opinions are unilateral, 'me'-centric, and overly emotionally-driven. Just loud voices and raw throats hoping for some soothing attention.

No better remedy than an hour with your favorite SP to get the funk out of the blues. The internet gossip can wait.

I actually only usually post happy stuff on my FB. Loads and Loads of pics of my dogs.

I depend on the internet in forms of searching info, learning how-to's, streaming movies/tv, communication both personal and work but I would not say I rely on it for self therapy. I am like others, I don't read blogs.

Yeah. Sigh. My favourite SP always makes me feel so good. And if it wasn't for the Internet, I probably would never have met her.

Not at all. I am an old school kind of guy and rely on facts more than assumptions or other junk the internet has to give.

The internet is great for sharing ideas, experiences, opinions, upcoming events and past memories.
It can be the best or the worst thing ever created, depending on how you use it and how much time is spent there.
You're in full control - if it's a negative experience, you're allowing it to be.

Guess what?.

Facebook is full of people who outright claim their joys in life. Most people who post, whether that be on a blog, social media site, FB, etc, do so to give their targeted audiences a glimpse into their lives and most people's lives come with joys and sadness, it would be a little questionable, imo, if it were all one sided.

I love blogging, posting and perusing the interweb for all sorts of reasons. One being, it enables me to pass time when needed, especially now, as my dog heals. I'm also flattered when gents who contact me have admitted to reading all of my personal blog and will recite the number of pages it contains. That is a bigger compliment than giving me praises for my physical traits:) The web, as Jasper has said, can be whatever you want it to be, but depending on anything to much is never a good thing :)
@jessica-you can never post to many pictures of dogs:)
