Post one skill that can help one be a success in business, love and sex.

Having people skills is one.

Sometimes it seems like the best way to succeed is simply refusing to accept failure

The key to success is simple: work your ass off, learn from your mistakes, be willing to admit you're wrong and move on, if you take risks make sure they are calculated risks, work your ass off, be willing to always learn new things, choose great people to work with, treat everyone fairly and honestly, and above all, work your ass off. The harder you work, the luckier you get.

the idea that failure is an option allows for failure to be a goal.

Agreed.

But, being more cynical (or bitter?) I've seen some clients get into businesses that I would have bet money against. Yet, they simply didn't know any better and they were willing to grind it out. Now, they are living comfortably (and probably better than me!)

there is a bit of right time right place that can play out too.

I used to work for a company that made more money by accident than our competitors made on purpose.

We did that by not scoring on each customer but rather creating a partnership with them. The company did that for almost 70 years. I say it did it, because, once the key office people bought it they wanted to score on each job.

They still make money but I walked away.

But that's the exceptional case, right? Most people sink more and more money in their goal, despite advice from others, in the commited belief they are brilliant and everyone else is misguided. I've seen dozens of people who just are not able to step back and clinically assess the situation, and hence they go under. It's difficult to step back, but we must all do it to succeed. Yeah, there are those who get lucky. But they are very rare.

Copy a bright idea/concept. Twink with it and just change the name. Most corporations do that.
