Alex becomes the first hurricane to form in the Atlantic since 1938, and the first hurricane to exist in this month since 1955.
More importantly, the storm is also approaching the Azores and is a storm that should be taken seriously, as hurricane force winds are expected in the central and/or western islands, and tropical storm conditions are expected in Ponta Delgada.
