[h=4]When James Smith found out that the same award his deceased wife was awarded — the Woman of the Year award — was given to Caitlyn Jenner this year, he returned the award to Glamour magazine’s New York offices, via FedEx. [/h][h=4]“I was shocked and saddened to learn that Glamour has just named Bruce Jenner ‘Woman of the Year,’ ” Smith wrote to Glamour. “Was there no woman in America, or the rest of the world, more deserving than this man?”[/h][h=4]Smith’s wife, Moira, 38, died after rushing into the south tower. She was honored by the magazine a month after her death.[/h][h=4]Smith continued to the New York Post: “At a time when we have women in the armed forces fighting and dying for our country, heroic doctors fighting deadly diseases, women police and firefighters putting their lives on the line for total strangers, brave women overcoming life threatening diseases… the list of possibilities goes on… is this the best you could do?”[/h]

I'm not sure he should have given it back, but I can understand him protesting. Although I feel that Caitlyn Jenner has done much to bring awareness to the transgender community, I do think there are more deserving women who should have gotten that award this year.

I think it is a disgusting thing he did. His wife was so much better than him. The medal was not his to give away. As far as I am concerned his reaction is one of a very bigoted person.

I think it is extremely important to be true to yourself and Caitlyn Jenner made a decision that suits her best. Her choice. Her decision. Her Life. Of course she also used her fame to highlight transgender issues and hopefully everyone involved benefits from this. However, there are other women more deserving of this award. We just don't hear about them because they are not concerned about themselves except for making this world a better place.
