I own my phone. I haven't been locked to a 2 year term in a long time. I've been screwed over by both Bell and Rogers and will never give them another cent of my money. No choice but to buy service from one of thier discount resellers. I never want to pay a middleman if I can aviod it, so I buy the phone from the Mfg's retail outlet.

Some, or maybe most people, prefer to be on contract, to pay for the phone in monthly payments. I didn't like that, so I'm on a monthly olan and could easily change to a different provider if nessesary.
Peobiders now need to provide the option of unlocking a phone when the contract is over.
bell charged me 75 plus tax to unlock My Phone I owned after buying it from them. Would have been 50 before my contract ran out, but they didn't tell me that.
