There are parts of Vancouver Island near Victoria where it's like a tropical rain forest, green and lush all year round. That's why the trees grow so big, such a long growing season. I never knew why trees in Alpine forests are so tiny even when they're hundreds of years old, until I started doing research on the Yukon before my first trip up there. It's because the forests are so high up in the mountains that the growing 'season' in some areas might only be a few days a year!

as much as I bitch about the snow I find winters here to be sunny on most days.

Much easier to take then a winter if grey and rain.
