A Chula Vista firefighter was arrested at the scene of an accident in Southern California on Tuesday night after he got in a dispute with a California Highway Patrol officer.
A California firefighter was cuffed and detained at the scene of a highway accident Tuesday after a dispute with a cop over where his truck was parked, authorities said.
The unidentified Chula Vista firefighter was cuffed and stuffed in the back of a police cruiser after he refused an officer's order to move his crew's fire truck from the center divider of the 805 freeway, according to local reports.
A news team from San Diego's CBS 8 caught the bust on camera.
"He's arresting me," the confused-looking smoke eater told the crew, as a California Highway Patrol officer cuffed him and hauled him away.
Chula Vista fire crews arrived in the northbound lanes of I-805 just south of Telegraph Canyon Road at around 9:30 p.m. after a sedan hit a concrete construction barrier and rolled over, injuring two people, authorities said.
The driver and a passenger were treated at the scene before being taken to a local hospital.
There was no word on their conditions.
The firefighter, meanwhile, was detained in the back of a squad car for about 30 minutes before police released him, according to local reports.
He wasn't charged with anything.
On Wednesday, Chula Vista fire officials and California Highway brass were meeting discuss what led to the unusual bust.
"We'll try to come to an understanding of what happened," Chula Vista fire Chief Dave Henneman told U-T San Diego.
Henneman told the newspaper firefighters positioned the rig on the center divider to protect the injured victims as they were being loaded into ambulances.
When the highway patrolman told the firefighter to move the truck, the firefighter replied that he needed to check with his captain first.
"We work on a chain of command," Henneman said. "The officer said, 'No, you need to move now or you'll be arrested.'"
San Diego Fire Chief Javier Mainar, who also had crews at the scene, was expected to attend the Wednesday meeting as well.
"Right now, everything is under review," Sanchez told U-T San Diego.
