Years ago I was transporting a hobby car from California to Nevada by tractor trailer. I hired a bonded and fully insured company to do the transport for me using a custom tractor trailer. I even insured my vehicle myself separately.

The driver, driving alone at night, decided to get high while driving through the desert (proven in autopsy results) and drove off the HWY, off a cliff, and into a deep ravine destroying his rig, my car, and killing himself outright.

Neither insurance company wanted to pay. Both tried to blame the state government for insufficient lighting and safety guard rails along the highway as root cause.

Took almost 5 years to get a negotiated settlement of about 60%. The fine print in insurance policies is just killer. You are set up for a loss before you ever write the check for the policy.

There are more bad drivers on the road than good ones these days. What I see a lot of is cars or trucks that speed up before a crosswalk, because they can 'beat the pedestrian' through the intersection, before he gets that far. Delivery trucks and taxis tend to do that more often than passenger cars.

Drivers who want to turn while the perpendicular light is red are equally as bad. They're paying attention to the other cars, while their vehicle is moving in a different direction, directly into the walkers who are paying attention to their traffic signals, rather than cars in their 'blind spot'.
