Made with Love

Its for the birds.

I don't believe this is a laughing matter. Danolo obviously has issues with me and so be it. I will continue to carry on and hopefully as time goes on Danolo will open his mind and be more accommodating with all members regardless of differing opinions.

For the past couple of months I've been watching the birds come to my bird feeder, just outside my office window and I must say, they give me great pleasure.

I started with one of those feeders that hang on the outside of the window with suction cups, but the damn squirrels robbed it and no birds came to it.

So, I did some research on squirrel-proof feeders and decided to make my own.

Here's a picture of it:

Its made with a 6 1/2 ft length of 1 " conduit, a 3 ft piece of 6" stove pipe, a large alum serving tray from the dollar store and a conical top I made from some vinyl sheeting I had lying around. There's some other bits of wood for bracing, etc. if you want detailed instructions on how its made, PM me.

The squirrels have tried a few times to climb the conduit, but its too slippery. If they DID get above it, the stove pipe is too fat for them to grab onto and too slippery as well.

The feeder is about 10 feet from the nearest tree, so they cannot jump onto it... I've seen a few squirrels looking at it from the nearesty branch, but they always don't try it. Even if they did, the conical top would not hold them and they would slide off.

Its been up for about 1 1/2 months and I've never seen a squirrel on the feed tray, so I think its 100% squirrel proof.

That is wickedly cooool Danolo. Thanks for sharing the pic and details!

Well, I finally bought the telephoto lens for my Ipad Mini. I got it on ebay for about $20 and its ok for what it does.

One problem with it is that it has a very shallow depth of field, so focusing is kinds tricky.

Another problem is that its almost impossible to hold it still enough to get a good shot. I clearly need a tripod. There is one I could buy, and I still might, we'll see...

I did see the Cardinal come to the feeder again today and I'd love to get a good shot of him.

Cool videos Danolo.

I used to own a vacuum mount for my tablet: www.seasucker.com
I don't know if they have ones now for the mini.
It works quickly and effortlessly and if they have a smaller sized one, it would sturdily attach your mini to the window and not get in the way of the lens.

I recently picked up some wild bird seed for the outside birds, I have a small balcony feature outside of one window that they can come to. I also like the squirrels tho, they run around up and down the trees outside, and along this window feature, and a couple of times both bird and squirrel have found their way indoors lol.

Nature is cool.
