My birthday is July 13!
The day before my 17th birthday, my father came into my bedroom, woke me up, said get showered, you're going to England! I was supposed to go to work at my Summer job but my parents had arranged with my boss at the mall for 5 days off.
My father's side of the family is from Scotland and mainly scattered throughout the UK and I have a cousin (Gordon-real name) who works in the music industry over there as an engineer. My cousins from my dad's brothers and sister bought me a ticket to go with them to LIVE AID at WEMBLEY STADIUM!
I have one cousin from my dad's side in Canadian; he's a glazier in the GTA and with his wife; they took me on the Concorde with them, so we left on the 12th and back on the 15th, a day and a half of sleep then back to reality. All it cost my parents was spending money in British Pounds. My cousin paid for my flight (wrote it off on business of some sort), several of my cousins from my dad's side were there's 13 of us in total between my dad, his sister and two brothers, and 8 were there together and they took care of me on my birthday.
I think that they did this because 5 years earlier when I was in Scotland for birthday, my granny passed away in my arms on my 12th birthday with my two uncles and aunt present at the hospital.
Anyway, that was definitely the best birthday gift that I ever received.
