Some taxes are essential. The US didn't have an income tax for a long while. The margins for different brackets have gone up and down. Lot's of things have been tried. But the issue isn't taxes....it costs money to run a country and provide services like national defense, etc. The problem comes when politicians start using taxes to grow the government in order to control more of the citizens' daily lives. Look at all of the shit that's been added to the government over the years. How much of it could we do without. Cut out all the bullshit and we wouldn't need so much tax revenue.....but it's hard to get people to vote for you when they think you are going to take away some sort of handout or something.
There should have been term limits from the get go to prevent career politicians.
(I'm simplifying here) The tax rates should always be the same.....the budget needs to be tied to the tax revenue so that when there's less coming in, budgets get slashed and if there's more coming in, they can spend more on improvements or send more back to the tax payers. It's should be that we have this huge budget and then they try to find ways to jack up taxes to pay for it. Any company or person who ran their finances like the government would be broke in no time.
