That Leafs game Saturday night in Boston, that was one good game. Maybe not as dramatic as the Superbowl LI, but still one good game. A big weekend for sport fans of Toronto.
Leafs are in a position to make the playoffs. The Leafs were on a three game losing streak. Blowing the game late in Philly, then not ready to play the first game back after the All Star break, then an uninspired effort before the Boston game. They were looking ahead to that Boston game. So the three game losing streak was not that bad in hindsight.
The Leafs defense is one of the surprises this year, as they seem to held up much better than anticipated.
The play of Gardiner has been a bright spot.
Riley has been good, and not so good. It seems it depends on how healthy he is, which shows itself on how well he skates, his mobility.
That Connor Carick, has gotten better as the season wore on. He probably going to make it as a NHL defense-man.
Zaitsev seems to keep on getting better incrementally as the season goes on. In the Boston, he was throwing his weight around, being a lot more physical than he usually is. He played with a lot of heart in that game, which was the most important game in the year up till now.
Talk about clutch, Nylander gets his first career hat trick in a big game like this. Since he got to play on a line with Kadri, his points have gone up.
Kadri again. After a nice clean hit, the Boston player gives him a little stick, Kadri gives him the cross-check, early in the first period to get the hostilities rolling. Somewhere, Don Cherry is smiling, along with Shanahan. Basically, the physical force of this team is Komorov, Polok, Kadri, Martin, in that order.
The Leafs wingers won this game, scoring all the goals. However, the wingers Leafs could have just as easily loss this game. A bad play at the blueline by a winger lead to the first Boston goal. A bad play at the blueline by a winger lead to a Boston power play goal. Then Boston scored 3 goals on points shot that bounced their way, the winger is suppose to cover the point. Leafs wingers scored all 6 goals though. Even JVR was taking runs at people.
Next game Monday night.
