Now being announced that indeed it is Randy Carlyle who takes over the helm in T.O.

IMO Wilson was not a good fit for this young team and I agree with the decision that he should be fired. Furthermore I want to wish Robert Carlyle all the best in Toronto.

Outside of the Marlies he has no head coaching experience. And even with the Marlies he has failed to make the playoffs the last two years.

Agree, but somehow they lost their respect to Wilson. How and why?.

I have no idea. Was he too arrogant and conceited?. The good news is that he won't become the coach with the worst losing record in the NHL, if that is any consolation to him.

I was thinking something had to happen. Wilson has had numerous chances to prove himself and sorry, they have some talent on the team, and had some over the last few years yet the only common denominator is the coach. Whether his coaching is the issue or not, the team isn't reacting to his coaching and since they've totally changed the roster a number of times, he had to go.

Frankly, I'm not sorry in the least.

Burke had no choice after the last game and the entire ACC was chanting FIRE WILSON. I was watching Wilson after that game talking with the press and he was visible rattled by it.

Well, if I were the owners I'd say to burke: YOU gave him the money, so it comes out of YOUR salary.......

I honestly think Burke needs to go too...get someone (maybe a a CANADIAN) who doesn't look at this as a business but as a sport, one in which you have to WIN to keep your job.

The thing is, why the hell do they start off so well, then hit the wall? Do they lose their skill? I highly doubt it.

I forget which one it was ...(gustaffssen maybe?) He was a good goalie. He had his own style of doing it. So what did the coaching staff do? Naw, that's not right...do it OUR way....so they made him change the way he had been doing it for what...20 yrs?

Can you imagine what they're doing with the other players if they did it to the goalie?

Anyhow, coaching isn't just standing behind the bench. It's what you teach the younger players (and the old timers) when you're not playing in a game. Obviously Wilson wasn't doing it because instead of getting better, they get worse over the season.......

Has anyone else noticed that Gill, Kubina, Wellwood, and a whole smattering of ex leafs do pretty well after they've been traded? I mean, Kaberle was part of the team that won the cup last year...what does THAT tell you?

Kaberle stunk in Boston last year. The Bruins won despite his play T. I think the pressure playing to TOronto under the media scrutiny really plays a big part with the teams head. They lose a couple and the pressure becomes too much. They grab their sticks a bit too tight and just make bone head plays because instead of playing with instinct and they are over thinking it.

I don't doubt that is an issue but thousands have played and won here under that same microscope. It all comes down to the leader and in this case, the coach. We've had coaches here who have taken the team to the brink many times (the brink meaning the cup).

Sure, Kaberle wasn't the best Bruin but still, he's got a ring doesn't he?

One more thing: The players have the skill. No doubt about it. But that skill has to be tuned and honed and managed. Key word there is manage. Like natural resources: if you don't use them wisely you'll end up starving and living under a bush. I don't think the last few coaches or GMs know wtf they are doing.

Kind of like trying to get a bunch of workers to build a house. You can berate them into doing it, or you can massage them into doing it well. It is up to you, the leader, to find the method that works best. If you can't, it isn't because they aren't able to build the house, it is because you're no using them correctly.

I agree Wilson had to go. I would have fired his ass at the beginning of the season. We haven`t won a cup since 64. The media scrutiny wasn`t as intense before, mind you Montreal has the microscope on them too and they`ve won no that long ago but I still think it`s an added pressure other teams don`t have to deal with.

I don't mind so much that we/they haven't won the cup. Supposedly it is the most difficult prize to win of all sports.

It is the ability to compete and fuck me, MAKE the playoffs.

I say this a lot: ok, there are a LOT of players in the NHL. But the crappiest player of them all is STILL a fucking amazingly skilled player who could blow the doors off just about anyone else (on the ice). With that being said, there is no reason, with the proper guidance, every team can compete.

I mean, look at Ovenchkin....he's not doing so well this year but with the proper guidance, why couldn't he? He still has the skill......

You look at the year for example. The leafs were winning more than they were losing. Did the other teams get better players? Umm maybe one or two but not all. Did the leaf players "lose" their ability/skills? Nope. They are still the same players. So something had to happen to them to make them "change". What could it be? How those skills are used, molded, shaped has to have happened.

For eg: You have a 69 camaro with a 396 540 hp big block. It starts idling a little rough. You don't rebuild the engine. You tweak the carbs or EFI system....that's all. Just a tweak here and there.......
