I wish I had the power to punish those that pay zero respects to knowledge, experience and just fragile good older people.

BARRIE — A 16-year-old who broke into a 98-year-old woman’s home and poured maple syrup over her while she lay in fear pretending to sleep should go to jail, a Crown attorney said Friday.

“It was reprehensible,” said Crown Kate Wright in sentencing submissions. “This was a vulnerable, disabled, 98-year-old woman who was confined to her bed, unable to call for help or defend herself.”

The teen, who can’t be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has pleaded guilty to break-and-enter, mischief and assault after admitting he and his buddy broke into the home of Jean Knox and trashed it, smearing eggs, peanut butter, ketchup and cooking oil on the floors, walls and ceiling of every room on Dec. 29, 2016.

Knox is confined to a wheelchair and almost completely deaf but enjoyed living in her family home that she and her husband built in the 50’s to raise their family.
She told the judge she was terrified when she saw the two hooded figures coming toward her so she lay still, pretending to sleep, as they poured maple syrup all over her and her bedding.

“I saw them coming toward me in the shadows so I pretended I was asleep,” she told the court earlier this week, explaining she thought the gooey, sticky syrup being poured over her was blood.

“I have been devastated by these young men,” she added.

Knox had to move out of her home for six weeks and it cost $20,000 to clean, paint, and repair the damage. She has since invested in a security system.
“Anything but a custodial sentence would be inappropriate because the facts are so egregious,” said Wright.

In court the teen, who stands six feet tall, dabbed tears with a tissue. A psychological report submitted to the court stated he appears to have no remorse and minimized the impact the trauma had on the elderly lady.

During his assessment, the teen admitted: “I will sometimes do something cruel to others when I’m not happy.”
The report also showed the teen has been defiant since he was a child. By the time he hit high school his “lies and manipulation” increased and his mother found it “futile” to attempt to discipline him.

Defence lawyer Angela McLeod said the teen was abused as a child and asked the judge to allow him to remain home and seek treatment, although she agreed there is a long waiting list for youth programs.

Justice John Bliss will sentence the teen on May 16.

This makes me so angry......yes let this "kid" stay home, all while others, human and animal, suffer until treatment is given......kids like this need to be locked up then treated. The parents should have sought help long ago. This is a serial killer in the making!

Get rid of the youth criminal act where they cannot name you. You'll see how quickly teenagers will start behaving and playing by the rules.

I am getting tired of hearing manipulative teenagers requesting for mercy because they weren't brought up properly. Last night, I had a conversation with some of my friends who are teachers. I am not sure why they always talk about their jobs but they went on and on about some kids having no remorse at all for their negative actions and how their administrators let them get away with them without any kind of punishment/consequences. One of the teachers was physically attacked on 4 separate occasions by one of her students. Not once he was suspended because according to her boss, her student needs support and forgiveness. Those teachers are left feeling vulnerable and A-69's news is a reflection of what is going on in today's society.

Your friend the teacher doesn't have a phone to call 911?. He should have called the cops on the first assault.

I said the same thing but the teacher said her student was protected by his something called IEP. Then her boss said he was only 9 years old. That is not point. SHM

What's IEP?.

A plan or program developed to ensure that a child who has a disability identified under the law and is attending an elementary or secondary educational institution receives specialized instruction and related services

Lol, different tone this time towards "manipulative teens", hey Peace. Why aren't you siding with the "poor teens" here, or is only when they "manipulate" escort service owners, that they then deserve empathy.

As far as I know, you don't have to be disabled. IEP also applies to children who are falling behind or have behavioural issues. IEPs can be used for gifted children as well.

There is more information if you wish to pursue.

in the novel "Starship Troopers", they have a very different sort of criminal justice system, more in line with that of Singapore, or the ancient civilization of Babylon, under Hammurabi, almost 3800 years ago.

If a teenager is caught stealing, justice would be passed swiftly, he would receive ten lashes in the public square, and his father would also receive ten lashes, for raising a thief! The end result is that violent crime becomes almost non existent, because the potential punishment is not worth the risk of the potential gain, and few ever re-offend.

My point is that a parent's responsibility for their offspring is more than just the act of conception, and optional financial support. Rarely, if ever, are parents or guardians held responsible for the children they create in their own image.

It would be difficult for anyone not in possession of a time machine to meet that December 2, 2011 deadline, Peace, but I'll put that in the 'to do' pile.
