I don't buy the "mod mentality" excuse...he broke the law, willingly, and with no reservations (at the time). If he was/is so good and helping, how does that fit in with vandalism? BULLSHIT he pulled the mask down to protect from tear gas...he did it to prevent his identification.
12 month house arrest basically ruined his (if it is in fact true) chances of keeping his job. Sure, society is full of misfits and we/they all gravitate to like minded individuals. The SECOND things started to get violent, he should have simply walked away.
I agree, a minimum sentence of 3 months and the house arrest and the probation would be more fitting. I would also force him to repay the damages he caused to the local shop owners. WTF did they do to him?
I would also make sure he never got anywhere near a government facility ever again...but knowing our bleeding heart liberals he'd not only be welcomed back with open arms, but probably given a raise to boot.....
One other thing: I have made it pretty well known that I came from "the wrong side of the tracks" and the area I grew up in, just about everyone was "the wrong crowd". I know I caused some shit when I was a kid/teen but whenever things started to get past the mischief area, I walked......The kid was 21....wrong crowd or not he should have known better and just walked away....
