A Utah sheriff's deputy, Timothy John Brewer, 33, beat up his dad in a booze-fueled rage after busting him having sex with his wife,Logan Rae, in his young son's bedroom police said.
Furious at the sick love triangle, he allegedly backhanded his wife then pointed a loaded gun at her head.
He then reportedly battered his father — a respected Moab fire chief — with the pistol.
A terrified Logan fled to her parents' house, while Wesley returned to his own home to "find a firearm."
But his wife tried to hide the weapon, so he allegedly "grabbed a butcher knife and stabbed himself two times, puncturing a lung and slicing his liver."
Rushed to Moab Regional Hospital, he was flown to a Colorado hospital for surgery — just as his shirtless son turned up in the parking lot and made threats to kill him.
TPM reports the incident happened on July 11 after a family meal.
Brewer was initially arrested and charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, two counts of domestic violence in front a child, assault on a police officer and intoxication.
Grand County sheriff's officers also charged him with disorderly conduct.
The investigation, however, was passed on to the Utah County Sheriff's Office because of his connections to the police.
His charges were subsequently reduced to assault and assault against a police officer.
Brewer, who has quit his job, was released on bail from San Juan County Jail on July 15 and will appear in court Tuesday.
He faces two years in prison if convicted.
