Manual vs automatic driving?

Have driven both and love the shift gearing up and down when slowing down and the speed kick the manual gives you. Can also be cool with the automatic on slow city streets.

Automatic is great on city streets with stop-and-go traffic. Standard is fun every other time. I drive both. I prefer standard. Gets me more involved in the driving experience.

The main problem is we don't teach standard in driving schools any more. Kids learn automatic because it's simple. And they can drive an automatic while texting.

Large trucks are all standard. What vehicle is better with an automatic? OK, maybe a Smart Car.

Pickups do not benefit by a stick shift.

For me unless it is a sports car I look at the benefit to the power curve.

I see cars and trucks as utility vehicles........you own based on need.

Many times I agree, but there are times driving is an ejoyable experience, and a great driving car is a blast. Same with a motorcycle. I've had more fun in a decent standard-equipped convertible (whether it's a Miata MX-5 or Porsche 911 GT4) on twisty roads than just about any other non-athletic pursuit.

Many times I agree, but there are times driving is an ejoyable experience, and a great driving car is a blast. Same with a motorcycle. I've had more fun in a decent standard-equipped convertible (whether it's a Miata MX-5 or Porsche 911 GT4) on twisty roads than just about any other non-athletic pursuit.

I agree there a re many roads here, in the mountains I would love to have a MG or a Spyder to drive on them.
