This one is the kicker: One of the men told the station that he hoped people would approach him and talk to him, instead of calling police
.

Are they for real. Who in their right man approach 2 men carrying rifles.

Would you?.

Two men seen walking down a Portland street armed with assault rifles told police they were exercising their Second Amendment rights and hoping to educate the public on gun rights.
Several calls were made to 911 on Wednesday afternoon, with alarmed residents reporting two men with guns strapped to their backs walking through the area of Southeast Seventh Avenue and Spokane Street in Portland's Sellwood neighborhood.

When police arrived on the scene, they found two 22-year-old men carrying rifles openly on their backs. The two were also holding valid concealed handgun licenses in Oregon, according to Fox affiliate KPTV.

The men reportedly told officers that they were seeking to educate onlookers about their Second Amendment rights.

"Exercising my rights with a rifle to try to decrease the demonizing of peacefully exercising your rights in public," one of the men, who declined to release his full name, told the station.

Portland authorities later identified the men as Warren Drouin and Steven Boyce. Officers said carrying firearms openly is legal in Oregon and carrying a concealed gun is legal with a valid license, according to the station. But doing one or both may generate 911 calls and possibly tie up resources that are needed for a real emergency.

One of the men told the station that he hoped people would approach him and talk to him, instead of calling police.

"What they really should do is observe the person to determine if the person is aggressive," he said of seeing someone with a gun in public. "We're not doing anything threatening to anyone."

The Portland Police Bureau, however, asks anyone who sees someone armed with guns to immediately call 911.

Their 2nd amendments rights! I guess that the rights of others in the USA just don't matter.

THIS is why the US is doomed....to even consider this type of thing is a reasonable action.........

Know what a reasonable way to do it would be?

Set up a table
Put the weapons on the table
Put a sign up: exercising my rights, want to learn more?
Put out pamphlets (the nra probably has oodles)

THAT is a reasonable demonstration......

This just goes to show my new life motto is true: just because something is legal, doesn't make it right. Just because something is illegal, doesn't make it wrong. I have half a mind to get that tattooed on my arm......ok, maybe not a tattoo, just a t-shirt maybe lol

That is disgusting and I can say I'm happy to live in Canada, they would be taken out by police sharp shooters here.

Sure I would just walk to them and ask them if they are looking for Koreans (Red Dawn :writing:)

Actually it IS legal for a licensed firearms owner in Canada to walk up Yonge street with a rifle or shotgun. But we're not stupid like the 22 year olds above.

I have had to educate police officers from Metro several times about the gun laws.

Here is the canada (federal) firearms act, want to show me where it says that?

https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/F-11.6/

Also, show me (if you could) in the provincial and city laws as well...tyvm.
(I bring this up because on the RCMP website it states that provincial or city laws can be different than federal ones)

I think you would end up face down on the street with law enforcement all over you.

Thats why I said we're not stupid enough to walk around carrying one Analme.

It is legal to carry a non restricted long gun as long as you have a PAL. It can be illegal to DISCHARGE a firearm in some cities and towns, Toronto being one of them. But it is not illegal to carry one.

Let me get this straight. You walk down Yonge whistling Dixie approaching St. Clair with a regular non restricted long gun strapped to your back like the 22 year old pictured above. You survive the onslaught of police that would be on you like bees on honey and you're telling me you will walk away without any charges laid?? Is this correct??

Criminal charges related to firearms no.

Endangering the public, no

I could however be charged with attempt to incite a riot, public nuisance and a host of other minor charges that the local popo feel fit to charge me with. I might be able to beat them but the cost would be staggering and I'm not exactly that stupid.

I c
Not too mention running into a cop with an itchy trigger finger because you do agree they would approach you with guns drawn, right? I can't argue on the charges because I'm not sure but I do know they would throw as much as they possibly can at you.

Its just a matter of time till some idiot puts this theory to the test :biggrin2:

Give me a fucken break. Cowboys on the streets is not the proper way to promote your freedom of carrying arms.
