PEARLAND, Texas (PIX11) — A mother charged in the drowning deaths of her twin toddler daughters broke out into a smile as she was arrested on Mother’s Day.
KTRK reports that Barbara Ramirez-Sifuentes, 21, faces manslaughter charges in the February deaths of her 15-month-old daughters. As she was handcuffed and taken into custody, Sifuentes appears to be smiling.
Investigators determined that the young mom, known to some as Barbara Russo, “recklessly caused the deaths” of Sabrina and Savanna Russo by leaving them in the bathtub with the water running while she cleaned and played music in another room.
Daily Mail reports that Sifuentes called 911 and performed CPR on one of her daughters after finding them, and the girls’ uncle and brother were home at the time of the incident.
Sifuentes’ attorney and husband have defended her, saying she was a loving mom and that this was a “horrible accident.”
