Danny it might be helpful to try to just think of it as a gift. If you do ever get it back, it's just bonus money.

/-Thumbs-up::/ I never expect money. back, especially when asked for by relatives. If they ask for a loan, I say, if I can, here take it. Good for you for helping your brother but don't let it cause discord between you and he. Some people are good money mangers and some simply are not.

That is what family is for but once he gets used to it and starts abusing your generosity you may develop a hatred towards him. I would be careful not to be a giver so much. It does have its flaws.

Alas, amongst many familes and circles of friends, there's the "you make more than I do so you should help me and be happy about it" attitude, with no real expectation of paying it back. I have friends hit me up all the time for "just a few bucks to get this, and I'll give it back to you within a month". If you say no, you're a greedy ass, and if you ever mention the "loan" you're a greedy ass. No win. I regularly help out family and friends, and will happily do so in most cases, but I find it's simply not aprpeciated, but expected.

If you really want to help him, try to get him into a more lucrative line of work.

At least some of my relatives do that.

I always try to help my family even go to debt if they are in need. But when I tried to borrow a few years ago none came to my rescue but my Mother. They were all too busy raising their kids, going on vacations or they just said they don't have extra cash flow.
