Ok, so this is my beef:

Who the fuck are these people and how the fuck do their brains work? (or not work as the case may be).

I'm learning a new software program for my cnc. It says "make component" I make component. Put component into the model tree. I put the component in the model tree. To trim the component select a cutting edge. I select a cutting edge. I hit "trim" it says "put the component into the model tree"...I FUCKING JUST DID. So I create another component and voila, it trims that..but now I have TWO in the model tree....FUUUUCK

I'd seriously like to get one on one with these people.......

LOL Geeks rule the world.

New news to you?. I hate it when I have to download new software and get all confused. Welcome to the new world my friend.

I tell you, if I actually PAID for this software? someone would seriously die if they wouldn't give me my money back.....

This is another beef: if you buy software and it is shit? TFB you own it no refunds no exchanges do not pass go.....who the fuck let them get away with this?

I dated once or twice a woman who wrote manuals for software. I asked her point blank: do you even know what you're writing about? Her answer? No, rarely do we have a chance to actually use the software....HOLY FUCK....she just shrugged.....lol.......

Maybe, blond? cute? about 5'4"?

She got upset when I said I couldn't date her anymore because I couldn't be involved with someone who did something I didn't respect. Such as meter maids/green hornets. I couldn't even befriend one of those asswipes.....

One thing I DID ask her also was: why aren't the manuals written for laymen? You know, the users? Why use technobabble to make so complicated to learn? She said she just uses the info the developers give her....ARRRGH

You have to hand it to windows though. They do try and make it easier for users to understand.

Everyone says apple is so much better. Bull fucking shit. Who the fuck in their right mind would think that putting something in the trash bin is the way to eject the DVD. I don't want to trash it, just remove it. That's what I mean about windows: when you want to eject the dvd, you press the eject button. Onscreen or on the actual drive. Apple doesn't even (or didn't) even provide an eject button.......I was using a designer's computer once and I was actually reaching for my leatherman multi tool when they walked into the room. I had been trying to figure out how to get the fucking disc out for about 20 minutes and was ready to take a hammer to the computer........

I mean, what kind of psycho would design something that to delete something, you put it in the trash bin. To remove something, you do the same thing. Well, ejecting something and deleting something are NOT the same thing.....

Every Apple keyboard I've used in the past 20 years has had an eject button. Upper right corner, looks like this:

Just put your finger on the key, and bingo, out pops the drive tray ... or is that too simple?

How long did it take you to figure out how to open the disc drive in the first place to insert the DVD?

Twenty minutes to open it a second time does seem excessive. Quite a learning curve.

Sounds like you have some serious issues, tboy:

Hmmm ... in both cases you are getting rid of something.

I mean, what kind of psycho would start a thread ranting about stupid PC software, and switch to bashing Apple. They are NOT the same thing.

Wait, maybe they ARE the same thing.

In both cases the psycho is getting rid of his anger about computers.

Art:

1) The title of the thread is SOFTWARE developers, and the stuff that operates computers is, ahem, software, whether it be apple or pc based.
2) The trash can is S O F T W A R E
3) I didn't load the disc, the designer did. He called me up to proof and determine which graphics were to be used......(if you must know).
4) Keyboard button: yeah, ok, and I'm supposed to look through 40 buttons on a keyboard, or "know" to look through 40 buttons on a keyboard just in case there's an eject button? Considering every other form of electronic device that you insert media into has an eject button right on the drawer/door/whatever. BTW: I don't know that this keyboard had the eject button. Otherwise the designer probably would have shown me that method as opposed to putting it in the trash bin......
5) Oh and for the record, in both cases you are NOT getting RID of something, you're removing one, discarding another. So if you think removing a Movie DVD from your video player is the same thing as taking out the garbage, well, you're as dumb as a post.

BTW: why the personal attack by calling me a psycho? Did I insult you or something? or are you one of these knobs who "has a relationship with their apple" and any comment about it is like insulting your daughter? Seriously, you have some issues if you take offence to someone making comments about your dear dear sweet computer......

OH, and yeah, I got rid of my anger hence why the thread was called "rant about...." you bonehead........

You are getting carried away here dude. I found the thread to be funny and just letting off some steam. The psycho name is uncalled for.

Why I don't hit the lobby section too often.

Hey, tboy ... I thought it was obviously tongue in cheek as I was using your own words. Guess I need to get into the habit of using smilies.

Seriously, you have some issues if you take offence to someone making comments about your dear dear sweet computer......:he:

And frankly I'm not trying to get personal with insults ... as I'm sure you're not with your final words, right?

I don't get the disrespect for meter maids/green hornets, they're doing an honest job of making sure you're penalized for not following basic rules. If people got away with not paying they'd hog the parking space all day and it wouldn't be available for you.
There isn't any deception and they aren't in your face about it like other jobs.

As far as technical writers and instructions, I can't deal with them as well. But I'm also terrible with basic menu stuff on my TV and I usually can't run a basic DVD player or use a cell phone these days.

As a software developer....sounds like a "user problem". :)

LOL yes, it IS a user problem, and since we're the ones using the software, and paying your salary, don't you think you (and your ilk) should design "user friendly" software?

Nothing against you, or what you do, but I find all too often people get too caught up in what they want to do, and how it is done as opposed to how the end user will react or interact with what they're doing.

Whenever I discuss a reno with a client, I find out what they want to do, and then point out how some of their ideas won't work in the real world.

To compare my issues with the software to something more common that people can relate to: what I'm encountering is similar to getting into your car, starting it, then going to put it into drive and the onboard computer saying "you must start the vehicle before shifting into drive". But you already started it? Ok, so you turn it off, restart it, go to put it into drive and the computer again says "you must start your vehicle before....". Ok, so you turn the car off, get out of the car, lock the doors, unlock the doors, get into the car, start the motor shift into drive and the computer says "you must start the vehicle before...". So you turn off the motor, get out of the car, lock the doors, go into your house, come out of your house, unlock the doors, get into the car, start the car, go to shift into drive and the computer says "you must start your vehicle before....". So you go and try and start the car again and the computer says "the vehicle is already started....."......

I can't TELL you how many times I've encountered things like this that if they happened in the real world, our economy would grind to a halt. Just imagine if everyday things were this complex? And, to be honest, they don't have to be. I know this for a fact because on the most recent release they've corrected the problem.

Another good example is: why reinvent the wheel? I've used photoediting software for....20 yrs? +/-. In every one, from aldus, coreldraw, adobe, etc etc they ALL use a crop tool to ahem crop photos. Why be different just to be different?

I don't have a problem with people doing their job. It is when they not only do a good job, but take pride in hosing people. For eg: hovering around a meter that is about to expire? or Handing out a ticket for parking outside the allowed timeline....1 minute prior to the allowed time......I got a ticket downtown for $40.00 and the time on it? 9:59 am and the allowed time was 10:00 am.

Another example is that show "parking wars". They showed meter maids hiding in the bushes outside a local sandwich shop because they knew lots of people stop, put their 4 ways on, go in, grab a sandwich to go, and out they come. That's just LOW.

Or how about not ticketing 18 wheelers on delivery who are not only parking illegally out of the allowed time, but blocking off the right turn lane? I used to drive up spadina every morning on the way to the site where I got the ticket at 9:59 and traffic was backed up for blocks because this deliver truck was blocking off a lane. Not only that but sometimes they'd be double parked and blocking off an entire THROUGH lane.....

Or did you know that anyone parked on any city street overnight, even though you are allowed to park there, can get a ticket for "unreasonable length of time"??? The rule is a maximum of 4 hrs. I used to get ticketed in front of my parent's house when I lived there at 4 am in the morning.

I was on the danforth one day and I saw a woman walk up to an SUV, open the back tail gate and start putting her groceries in. After she started I saw a meter maid walk up to the front of the vehicle and start punching in a ticket. She came around the front and said WTH you doing? He said "I didn't see you back there, here's your ticket". But I was HERE, doesn't matter tough shit fuck you......

I was with a sales rep once and he was parked on yonge st north of eglinton. He bought a ticket, put it on his windshield. We got back from lunch and saw a meter maid giving him a ticket. He said "wtf, I have a ticket" The MM said "it isn't totally visible". WTF my friend says: it's right fucking there! You can see the whole ticket...."no" the MM says "your ____ sticker is blocking some of it"......OMFG you have to move your head an inch to the right to read the entire DATE....."too bad" the MM says.....(it was one of those transparent window stickers for an oil change or something...you could see the ticket was for this day, and the right time, I think the year was partially blocked but if you moved your head slightly, you could read it.....and dont' get me started on the one where the ticket blew to the middle of the dashboard and wasn't in the corner by the driver's side)....

I can give you thousands more examples but my fingers are sore.

The thing is, if cops took their job that seriously, then everyone would be ticketed/charged 10 times a day. The way the world works is to look the other way sometimes, give grace, bend the rules a bit just to get along. I've used this example before: if you've had anal sex in the last 7 years then you should turn yourself in because you've broken the law. If you've ever crossed the street not at an intersection and not in a marked crosswalk, you've broken the law. If you've ever failed to signal a lane change, you've broken the HTA.

As for not being "in your face about it", OMFG dude, you can't be serious? I have yet to see one who doesn't relish the fact when they stick that ticket under your wiper....

Oh yeah, might I point out the reason for the global economic meltdown is 100% caused by people "not bending the rules".....

Well that's good Odd, that's the way it should be. Kudos on your opinion that it should be simple to use and simple to learn.

BTW: this isn't open source, I stole it plain and simple. The current version is $800.00 and I have already purchased 2 other pieces from them for $1000.00 (one of which doesn't do what I want it to do and the other doesn't do everything I was told it can do). Hence why I downloaded the previous version before dishing out the $800.00 on the current version. I wanted to try it before spending that kind of coin. I don't want to blow almost another grand on something that won't do what I want it to. (kind of glad I did since, like most software companies, once you buy it there's no getting your money back).

To give you an idea of what this does: it allows you to draw, or import files to create toolpaths to run a cnc router.

here's another issue with another piece of software: I play battlefield bad company 2 online. Now there are HUNDREDS of bits of BS in this game. The biggest beef I have is that you can hit an enemy with 5 rounds from a .50 cal tank mounted machine gun, and he keeps on running. But come up to him with a knife? You kill him instantly. W T F is that horseshit?

As I said, I've been using photo editing software, autocad, CNC programming software, etc for at least 20 yrs, so it's not like I don't know squat. I have a tremendous amount of experience with this type of software yet have never had so much trouble.......even fricken autocad where it is powerful enough to design the space shuttle, I have issues with that as well but I can accept it since the software can do virtually everything and is extremely complex.....

Ok I am lost with all this technical computer related words.

CG we need some naked pictures on this thread pronto :)

Solidworks? I torrent-ed a copy prior to us committing to it also, if that is the package. Not involved with the mechanical design portion of our systems, just the confusing, over-intellectualized software that confounds.
