player, there are systems and there are systems....it all depends on your needs and your budget. Just like anything in life you can get to work in a 1976 vega or you can get there in a bentley azure......properly maintained, a vega is a great little car and you'd save a bundle on insurance not to mention the half mill you'd save on the purchase price.
When i lived in my loft in the city, they were looking into systems like yours, and came up with a price around $20,000.00....well, that's all fine and good considering the corp was basically broke and would require a 4th special assessment in one year....I looked into other systems and spoke to many dealers and you could get a nice system, with 6 colour cameras all operated by a mediocre desktop for about $2500.00. You have to remember that camera quality has jumped leap years. I mean hell, you can get a really really nice digital slr for under 500 that would have cost you 20,000.00 10 yrs ago....
Ok, maybe the 36,000.00 system has better cameras that will give you 20,000 mp instead of 2000 mp. Well, with 2000 mp you count the spots on a bee's ass....if you want or need to count the hairs on a fly's leg, then go for the 20,000 (just remember, you'll need massive storage to retain those images).
Just one more thing: a buddy of mine is in the a/v fire alarm biz. I asked him if he could get me a deal on a 32" tv to use as a computer monitor. The best he could come up with was a panasonic....for $599......I wanted 1080P. I bought a fluid from radio shack with a 2 yr otc warranty for $329 is it a panasonic? No. Does it have twice the warranty? yes......are the specs the same? yes....(better refresh rate i have to add).
