Not Feeling Christmas This Year

I don't know, maybe the warm weather and lack of snow has something to do with it (not that I'm complaining). Maybe I'm just getting older and don't like the commercialization and greed I see this time of year. My email is swamped with ads that I don't have time to read, let alone delete.

I've only put up minimal lights on the outside of my house and nothing whatsoever on the inside. I won't even put up a tree unless the family insists (so far I haven't heard anything from them about it). I see the time ticking away and I've done very, very little gift shopping although I'd better get cracking on that--I doubt my wife would appreciate getting nothing for Christmas this year. I know my daughter will send me a list soon, and that'll make buying for her a little bit easier.

What's wrong with me this year? What do I need to do to get off my bum and get into the spirit? How about the rest of you--are you feeling it this year?

I used to work in retail, so I am way beyond wanting to have the "Christmas Spirit" One day of Christmas with family is fine, but all the lights, commercialism, ads, songs, sales starting right after Halloween is way too much. Maybe Christmas Eve and Christmas is more than enough, but as an adult I don't really "get into" Christmas. It was really more fun as a kid because we couldn't afford to buy anything ourselves, so we waited all year for what we wanted, and Christmas carols at school were also fun.

I'm not really into any commercial holidays I suppose. I enjoy spending time with those I care about any time, and don't need the holidays to tell me to, and to buy things just to "feel" the season.

I'm sorry for you Bolt. This time of year can cause a lot of mixed feelings and stir unexpected emotions and not always favorably. I don't think there is anything wrong with not celebrating, you're either in it or out of it. If your family is fine with having a quiet Christmas than do so. If they want more then perk up for them.
We all know Christmas isn't about the spending, gifts, etc. It's about gathering with those you love. Eat drink and be merry, we may get some snow, and if you get down, log on here, someone will certainly make you smile wishing you the Christmas you desire. Btw, I remember seeing a pic of you with a cute cat sitting on your lap, go out and shop for it, sometimes going out among all the hustle and bustle can get you in the mood

I've been celebrating since mid Nov, by the time it gets here I'm sure the excitement will pass, until then I'm ho, ho, ho'ing

I'm with Bolt. I have a complete lack of Xmas spirit, couldnt' give a damn, hate the crowded malls and the stupid people. Even Ms C in Xmas lights didn't improve my Xmas spirit (although it did have other effects). I don't think it's the weather, unseasonable as it is...I think it's the overcommercialization of the whole thing that has me bummed out.

Time changes all of us. Once you hit a certain age and have given enough to your family.

The rest is just a routine that one has an option to do or not.

I also find myself not getting into the spirit this year. Thinking because I don't have responsibilities but Bolt you have a family and feel the same way.

Aside from seeing the family, the only part of Christmas I enjoy is doing the Angel Tree and Toys for Tots shopping.

I haven't decorated in years, but I will admit it made me smile when I got home tonight and found a friend had hung a decoration on my door.

My eyes rolled when a coworker started playing Christmas music at 8:15am on the first day back after Thanksgiving. After a couple of days we compromised and now we have normal music for half the day and the stupid carols for the other half. I do like it when they play Little Drummer Boy.

Bolt, maybe some charity shopping would cheer you up. Lots of little kids out there need a Santa.

I'm feeling especially festive this year compared to last years. I like the whole Christmas season. One thing that has always cheered me up, and turned me on, is a strip club visit around the holidays, love lady's in skimpy Santa outfits....

Im not religious, but consider myself a spiritualist, so I'm not into the church type Christmas although I respect other people's beliefs. Certainly giving to charity helps with the Christmas spirit. I'm looking forward to spending some time with family, and the grandkids are a lot of fun.

Even the overcomeralization hasn't affected me this year, it all good for the retail industry and keeps people employed, so the crowds and traffic don't bother me much. I've been having some fun with shopping, in stores and online. And wrapping presents is entertaining.

I even got my favorite SP's some presents, and I'm looking forward to some special visits over the holidays.
I'm taking a work holiday, got a resort booked and planning on trying skiing, haven't skied in many years, so should be funny.

And if course the HUBGFE Christmas party looks like it's gonna be a fun event, can't wait to see all the Lady's in thier Christmas outfits ).

I didn't start celebrating Xmas till I left home at 19. Because of so many personal reasons, it has always been pretty significant for me. Even with my life situation being traumatic for the last few years around this time, I try extremely hard to be cheerful and be a positive and uplifting influence on those around me. I find that the people for whom the holidays seem easiest and most effortless are the ones who resent having to celebrate it the most. What a shame. I would give anything to be in the position you are in bolt, with family to spend Christmas with and funds to make it happen.
