Few weeks back I read about churches being torched all over France. It was not very publicized. First thing I thought of at the time was Notre Dame. If you look at the pictures there was scaffolding all around it, they were obviously doing repairs to the building. Most likely a construction fire..

Paris fire chief Jean-Claude Gallet said the church’s structure had been saved after firefighters managed to stop the fire spreading to the northern belfry. Gallet said “two-thirds of the roofing has been ravaged.”

yes it was an on going construction project!
Just because a contractor is on site don't jump to the conclusion that it must be a construction fire!
You are dealing with a structure that is primarily built inside of extremely old timber that has not seen the light of day in centuries.
This wood is dryer than a popcorn fart.
You are dealing with a process that has a bazillion candles on the inside.
You are dealing with a time which is one week before Easter which undoubted is a very busy time for the Church and the people that run the structure.
Perhaps it is just a careless use of a candle left unattended that fell over or a match carelessly discarded by a patron.
Who know's?? But lets just not jump to conclusions and start finger pointing.
The world regardless of your faith has lost a Heritage structure of monumental proportions.
Even if the church is rebuilt it will NEVER be original.

Correct, both towers were saved.

It is a huge loss. Was built 800 years ago. Just heard two of the richest families in France donated 300 million already.

Makes you wonder though. This building has stood the test of time and a "reno" caused it to burn down?????

We are taking 2 world wars, riots, weather, age, etc. and nothing, but do some work on it and poof, it goes up in flames.

I don't get it. If it was a construction fire, someone is responsible. His head should be on a spike for this. We should know who and how.

I don't get how they have even called this an accident, not arson. The embers were still smouldering, so how do you know it was an accident? Unless someone on the crew told people how it happened and if that is the case, then that person who did this should be told to us. In my humble opinion.

This is a very horrific fire that happened and pointing the finger now is not right.
I have personal experience in this type of matter and you are just adding to the frenzy of "Oh it was a construction site so they started the fire"
Any construction site around the world will have that finger pointed at them unless people STOP and wait for the investigation.
Can you just imagine the thoughts that are running in the minds of ALL construction workers on that site right now.
Please Please Please wait for the investigation to be complete.

I agree. I was laughing at myself. It is totally sexist to write/assume gender. Mine was not meant to inject gender either but I did.

I have no problem waiting BTW, but the French president already said it was not arson. That is not waiting for an investigation, then embers were still smouldering when he announced it.

It it has been announced it is suspected to be an accident related to the Reno, so as you can see, it is not me saying a construction mistake, it is the authorities making those assumptions and that is all they are telling us.
