In the days before music videos, Pan's People performed choreographed dancing to the hit songs by artists who were not in the UK at the time. The tall blonde, "Babs", later became the first woman to visit both the North and South Poles! This was the first performance by Pan's People that I ever saw, and still my favorite. Unfortunately, most of their performances no longer exist; the BBC reused the videotape, on which most of the pre 1977 episodes had been recorded. Their innocent sexuality masks the fact that they didn't dance particularly well. No one really cared about that.

Here's another Pan's People performance for RED, dancing to "Fuck the Pain Away" by Peaches. I don't know what this sounds like; the audio drivers on this laptop are screwed up. I've never seen this one before. While the BBC may have erased many of the performances, it appears that foreign markets or aficionados preserved their copies. We are forever in their debt.



Apparently, youtube has almost 200 Pan's People performances. Other than on Top of the Pops, they also appeared on "The John Denver Show" in the UK, around 1974, for about six episodes. They also had a "Pan's People in Concert" special, that was one of their more erotic ensemble pieces. Choreographer Felicity "Flick" Colby was part of the group for the first few years, (Pan's People were on ToTP from 1968-76). They were later replaced by other female dance groups like Legs and Co. and Ruby Flipper, who had more dancing skills, but less charm and enthusiasm.
