Soccer has a phenomenal fan base around the world. The revenue from soccer supports this kind of payout. I believe soccer and F1 racing are the two biggest fan sports in he world but I am not positive on that.
I like to watch some soccer but as soon as a guy hits the grass and start rolling around like a gutted fish I turn it off.
I will never understand how an athlete can embarrass himself his team and the sport by acting like that.
