On the way to a project in the Carolinas in a rental, and pulled over by a state cop, said I was "speeding", said it would be less time consuming for me if I paid him in cash.
Started handing over 20's one at a time, until he said that was enough, judging how much I had left in my wallet.
Of coarse no receipt, just trying to "save me time".
Don't know if this was a similar shake down that went bad, or she was lying.
But not the most scrupulous down there, so best to just pay up, and shut up.
