It is with the greatest regret that we wish to inform our community of the passing of our founder Fred Zed after a very brief but courageous battle with cancer. Although deeply saddened with this sudden and unexpected loss, the Mods, Mark Service, and the new management of T**b, Merb and Perb, have committed themselves to not only carrying on Freds legacy, but to grow and strengthen the communities to even higher levels with the same care and consistency that would make our founder proud. As long time friends and associates, we were chosen by Fred to carry this tradition forward and are honoured to do so.


The recent, brief shutdown of the boards was not due to any outside hacking, it was because of some brief legal squabbling within Fred’s estate over ownership and control of the boards. The Fred Zed email, or PM system were never compromised by outside sources, it was all internal. This has now all been sorted out and the legal issues are completely behind us. The boards will be business as usual going forward. Rest assured that we will stop at no expense to keep all personal information on these sites as safe as possible. For the time being, the Fred Zed username will continue to be the main administrative authority on the boards until a replacement is made. All email addresses currently listed on the sites will all remain active until further notice. The Mods and Mark Service are also as available as per usual. Thank you and may god rest Fred Zed.​

and how come some women reported that an email sent to them contained emails "not" to mail but then the body of that email disappeared.

Frankly, I believed Fred was dead. He supposedly stopped answering personal emails & he was slow on the financial side of things (which is NOT Fred). And Fred told us his laptop was hacked then he wasn't hacked. #right.

I don't think those questioning the handling of the death are disrespectful to Fred. With all the hacking & threats going on recently people are naturally skittish because their personal data & their clients could have been at risk. One SP I know had an anxiety attack. I had at least a dozen people contact me, some who I had no idea who they were asking me "now what do I do".

Regardless, condolences to Fred and his family and much respect for what really was a ground breaking idea. I was looking at Perb.ca in web.archive.com tonight. You can see the origins of the site right back to 2002. I don't know if Fred created the concept of the review board, but without question he developed the most successful group of review forums in Canada. And while I've never been a moderator at one nor would I own one, I can only imagine it's a real challenge.

It's very sad news guys. Fred was the only forum owner to ever have forums run successful from coast to coast. You have to give him credit where credit is due.

Please save all the other non-sense for another thread. It really has nothing to do with Fred Zed. It's someone else's mistake in judgement.

Here's the thing though Fiddy, I started this thread (it's since been merged) to discuss the bizarre contradictions happening on the other forum. It was NOT meant to be a memorial. The issues at the other sites have filled up my inbox as people ask me about the security of their data. I saw the announcement yesterday and my first thought was this can't be real, is this a hack or a troll? I was baffled at how it was handled and that was the point of this thread.

No disrespect was meant to Fred or his family.

For most hackers, review boards are not high value targets. There's not really enough money to be made by hitting a review board. It's a far cry from something like Ashley Madison where there was millions of credit cards and other personal info.

Generally review boards are very low value targets. Most hacks are from hackivest, people hacking for the sake of hacking, or people/competitors trying to interfere with the operation of the site.

There's better targets out there with bigger paydays. People should be mindful never to use the boards to send or exchange any sensitive personal information.

Never click links or accept attachments in your escort or hobby email accounts. Scan your systems with virus and spyware softwares or a regular basis.

Fred ran a prior board before the current boards in 2002. I forget its name.. kind of funny name as I recall which I was active on - then Pxxb and now mostly Txxb with about 2000 posts trip reports etc. Others may have different views but I have always preferred Fred's boards since conversations for the most part are more mature with less just wise cracks and nonsense of some other (i.e. Blue) boards, in my view. I look for intelligent information and discussion and am active on other U.S. boards but have been making trips to Toronto now for over 10 years.
