SILVER SPRING, Md. — The first drug shown to prevent HIV infection won the endorsement of an FDA advisory panel Thursday, clearing the way for a landmark approval in the 30-year fight against the virus that causes AIDS.

The Food and Drug Administration panel recommended approval of the daily pill Truvada for healthy people who are at high risk of contracting HIV, including gay and bisexual men and heterosexual couples with one HIV-positive partner.

The FDA is not required to follow the panel's advice, but it usually does. A final decision is expected by June 15.

It would cost about $900/month, yes you would have to take it monthly and it's not fool proof. Condoms so much cheaper and a must for us hobbyists. Don't expect SPs providing BBFS anytime soon.

i wonder if it protects people from contracting the virus via a blood transfusion????

you have to wonder if it has side effects like those drug ads on US tv stations.....maybe cause brain bleeding, rectal cancer, heart disease, liver failure, do not take if you are pregnant, may become pregnant or are even thinking about getting pregnant....don't take if you walk upright, sit, or lay down in a horizontal position....do not let children handle view or see these pills or mutation may occur.........
