More ammo for the Joy Smith's of the world. They take a small group of people within the industry and paint everyone with the same brush and what is really getting under my skin is they are trying to put the pimps and clients (johns) under the same umbrella.

WASHINGTON — A street prostitute in Dallas may make as little as $5 per sex act. But pimps can take in $33,000 a week in Atlanta, where the sex business brings in an estimated $290 million per year. It is not nearly as lucrative in Denver, where prostitution and other elements of an underground trade are worth about $40 million.
Those are some of the findings of a landmark government-sponsored report on the size and structure of the sex economy, including massage parlors, brothels and expensive escort services. The study also found that four in five pimps elect not to deal drugs and that little money trades hands in the child pornography business.
The report does not estimate the size of the illicit sex economy nationwide, instead analyzing the trade as of 2007 in eight cities: Miami, Dallas, Washington, Denver, San Diego, Seattle, Atlanta and Kansas City, Mo.
The report, commissioned by the Justice Department, is intended to address what researchers describe as wide gaps in the understanding of how the underground sex trade works, especially in the Internet age.

When I worked an at agency, they got approx. one third of the donation, up front. We collect $$ from the client, count it, leave the room to deposit the agency fee in the safe, then go back to see the client.
That covered advertising, some supplies and the incall location, although we also did outcalls.
When the agency owner started telling me what I had to do and who I had to see, I knew it was time to quit.

Former pimp among 3 men arrested in $20,000 extortion
Three people were in an Ottawa court Monday afternoon facing charges they extorted $20,000 from a prominent Montreal-area businessman in exchange for not releasing "compromising" photos and a video to the media.
Montrealers Marty Antoine, a 31-year-old convicted pimp, Stephanie Hieke, 20, and Guy Kelly, 50, appeared on charges of extortion, conspiracy and theft.
The victim of the Feb. 20 incident is a 48-year-old man whose name is covered by a court-imposed publication ban.
The case wound up in Ottawa Police jurisdiction because the victim was taken to three banks in the capital, Sgt. Anthony Costantini said. He called Montreal Police, who contacted the Ottawa force.
Police have been investigating since, issuing warrants for the suspects' arrests last week. The trio were arrested in Montreal Friday and had a first appearance in court Saturday.
Costantini would not provide further details in the "sensitive" case.
The victim, a married father-of-three, refused to comment when reached at his business Monday.
Antoine has a long criminal record for offences including pimping. Once the proprietor of an escort agency called Sextasy, he was sentenced to 28 months for forcing girls as young as 13 into prostitution.
When the National Parole Board made the rare move of denying him statutory release in 2010, it noted that the victims were physically and psychological abused, used as "objects" and "slaves" and that while in prison Antoine attacked another inmate with a fork.

There is a huge difference between pimps and agency owners. I know a few agency owners quite well (one of them quite, quite well!) and they are, for the most part, businesspeople who recognize the ladies that work for them are their valued resource and treat them as such. There are a few who are money-grubbing assholes, who treat the ladies like commodities, but they are, fortunately, in the minority. And then there's pimps, who do not treat their ladies well at all.
