American democracy, all democracy, will not survive a lack of belief in the possibility of impartial institutions; instead, partisan political combat will come to pervade every aspect of life.

This partly explains the Rob Ford years as mayor.

The ideological divide where either side believed the other side got it all wrong. The points of contention being role of government, deficits, taxation.

The aftermath of Rob Ford being exposed as a junkie, and he still had widespread support, clearly it would suggest that people had more faith in a junkie, than those elected bozos sitting at the calm shells.

Noticed something the other day.

Riding the bicycle along the Bloor Street Viaduct, was going along like always, but it has been a while since I last rode the bicycle.

Then I made the turn up that side street, going left across the road. Turned into the small street. I knew I had to watch for the divider, but it was not there anymore.

Finally I realized what was different. The separator, the vertical flat pole sticking up separating the the bicycle lane from the traffic lane, was gone. They took it out.

Why did they do that?

It was kind of useless I always felt. Seemed like a nuisance to us cyclist when they put it in, as it made it more difficult to pass the slower riders.

Two questions then.

Why did they put it in?

Why did they remove it?

Anybody know?

Thanks.

This is a curious article. Sort of like thesis, anti-thesis, resolution, a view of economic & social/political history.

It is not that boring, and not too long.

In the context of the past 150 years, Trump rise makes perfect sense.

However, that is not the reason I'm posting this. This affects Canada. We are not immune from these forces driving the world economy and we feel the shifting political winds.

If current events holds true, then Sunny Trudeau is a goner, and he does not even know it. We're walking into the great unknown.

One other thing. That is Canada.

You know, all these things happening, which affects Canada, and when the election rolls around, no one is gonna to talk about any of this stuff.

No one. We all know that.
