Even if you think you have been but it didn't work out. Post here because you never were.

Posting.

Many don't believe it when I say, I've never been in love and some feel bad for me, which I find puzzling. I've had a few great relationships, but they were based on things other than love, such as, lust, money, attraction, friendship, but nope not love, not yet anyway. Not everyone is meant to be coupled, or gaga over someone and one can love someone, but not be in love:)

Been in lust many times, felt like love but only lasted 5 minutes.

As far as I'm concerned love is a four lettered word.

Between the dysthymia and avoidant personality disorder, I find myself feeling both unworthy, untrusting, and afraid of finding myself in such a situation.

As much as I put up with at home, I must love my wife. (Or I'm just too lazy to go out on my own) :biggrin2:

The most "LOVE" I've ever felt for anyone is for my son. Even when he misbehaves, I love the hell out of him. As for Romantic Love, I don't know. I think that my motivations for being with most of the women in my life was just lust. My wife and I were friends for a long time before we became romantic. Adding the romantic aspect was great for awhile but when things change over time (her or me or both of us), that early burning need for the other person definitely dies down to embers. I just need to find a way to stoke it back into a fire.

There are a lot who feel as you do. Or the many sp's working, wouldn't be working. The majority of my clients are coupled and many profess to love the wives/so's, yet seek that spark with another because they no longer have it at home. Relationships can very complicated, and all are work, they require constant care, attention and nurturing. I think many neglect them because they just don't have the energy, with children, work, aging parents, etc, little energy is left for the spouse. But if one truly wants embers to turn to blazing fires, one will find a way and if a way is found and tried and it doesn't work, then perhaps it's time to let the embers burn out and move on. We all should want a relationship that can fulfill all our needs and desires. But that is easy for me to say, as the longest relationship I've had was a little more than 2yrs long.

To be in love one must first like, not love, themselves.

Otherwise they seek clarity in self.

I think those who are unhappy with themselves, or who don't like or love themselves can still, certainly be in or fall in love, but for the relationship to be successful and worthy, they'd have to have a sense of themselves and self love. If they don't have a sense of themselves, a like/love or appreciation of themselves, they then become draining to their partner. Because an insecure, unsure person, is always looking to satisfy all their hopes and dreams through the acts of another, they'll place blame on their partner for their own mistakes and unhappiness.
An unfulfilled person can only fulfill themselves, someone else can add to that fulfillment but they can't make it happen.

No........it is the uncertainty that prevents them from giving fully of themselves.
