PSN Class Action Lawsuit Against Sony Launch In Ontario

Since Sony's PSN has been hacked and the possibility that 25 million users personal information and credit cards are getting exposed.

A Mississauga woman launched a class action lawsuit against Sony for $1 billion. The press release says it's on behalf of 1 million Candian PS3/PSN users.

I am also a PS3 and PSN user and gave them my info and credit card.

My question is that Am I automatically represented in the lawsuit? Will the law firm ask people to come forward? Will I have to prove to the law firm that I am a PS3/PSN user?

Any lawyers out there with legal advice.

If you used American express credit card you are safe as they protect their clients. Not sure what Visa/mastercard can do for you.

You have to get your own lawyer and odds are that it will take years to settle so why bother.

I know both visa and mastercard have programs in place to protect you against fraudulent use so you're protected. I know I got a call from my bank one time when they found my card was used at an odd time/website. They actually got a little annoying when they phoned me anytime I used it at home depot. I told them at the time that any purchases at home depot, lowes, rona, canadian tire, Lee Valley, to let them go through because I use(d) it there almost weekly. They actually did that, put those retailers on the "approved" list. I thought it was a great idea.

I said "if you ever see a purchase at sears, or holt renfrew, or any other women's clothing store, STOP the purchase immediately lol.......The person on the phone laughed.....

I am not a lawyer but the odds of winning are very slim. Maybe a couple oh hundred dollars but a mil...No.

The thing about suits like this is one has to prove damages. If the plantiffs cannot show any damages, the amount will be appropriate. ie: if amex/visa/mastercard protect you from fraudulent purchases, you cannot experience any loss that way and someone finding out you address and phone number, well, that's a matter of public record anyways so you cannot prove any damages there....

I also bet that when one clicked on the "user agreement" there was a line in there about liability........

I don't know that hacked is the correct terminology, this exploit was due to the information the hackers got on the first event.....

Kind of like if someone steals your id, and uses it, then uses it again, you can't really say they stole my id again......

But only needing an email address and DOB to reset a password IS kind of lame. Usually they make you email a temp password to your email address then you go back and reset it. That way the hackers would need your email address ID and password as well......
