Looking for recommendations for a good cross-training shoe, good for a little running, hitting the gym, walking, not flashy or trendy or bright coloured, over-priced, not ugly-gawdy, hopefully classy, lightweight & super practical.

There's a lot of good shoes on the market, so your best bet is to ignore the blue short guy and head to your local sports store and talk to the "expert". They may not be "expert" but they know more than you do about the shoes! Personally, over 95% of the athletic shoes I've work have been New Balance, mostly because they have seen me through marathons, mega walking sessions, cross-training sessions, squash courts, tennis courts, and tons more in the last four decades and I've never had a problem with one pair. I've tried Nike, Asics, Adidas, Puma and a few others, and New Balances have always been best. But, they no longer make their shoes in Massachusetts, but in Asia, so things may well change. Good luck finding a pair, expect to lay out at least $100, and don't scrimp on the shoe cost. If you buy the better shoe, even at more cost, you'll get the most from your sessions.

I bought a pair of Dr. Scholl's cross trainers at Walmart for a decent price and they're fantastic!

I use Vibram Cross training footwear and find it light and very comfortable.
