Just to add something I only recently learned about.....

In Jefferson's first draft of the US Declaration of Independence, Jefferson went off on King George for slavery. Not something they teach you in schools for some strange reason. It was taken out to placate the southern colonies in order to get them on board against England. But the point is, the founders were not the slavery loving old white guys that so many make them out to be today.

Many of the founding fathers owned slaves...Washington and Jefferson come to mind. Washington eventually freed his, Jefferson did not.

I agree with much of the rest of what you said.

I'm afraid it might be a long hot summer down here in the south...the whole civil war monuments firestorm seems about to erupt all over again. I think they should leave Silent Sam where he is and put Harriet Tubman or Frederick Douglas up right next to him.
