I know a guy who dated this woman who was absolutely insane. She went so far as to call his work & said some pretty nasty lies against him which caused the poor guy to get dragged into HR. He later took a job in Eastern Canada and then "staged" his own death telling her he was near the end because he had AIDS. He just disappeared leaving her in limbo as "payback".

I believe your friend has as much issues as she did. It's not normal what he did, there are legal actions he could've taken.
