The Toronto mayoral race is starting to look like a two-horse contest as Doug Ford edges closer to John Tory whiles Olivia Chow falls into third, according to a new poll.
The Mainstreet Technologies poll released Monday put frontrunner John Tory at 37% support among voters most likely to vote. Doug Ford — who was said to be in a dead heat with Olivia Chow for second place in previous polls — is within seven points of the leader with 30% support of voters. Meanwhile, Ms. Chow is at 21%. Twelve per cent of respondents were undecided.
“[Doug Ford] has successfully positioned himself as the Tory alternative,” Mainstreet Technologies President Quito Maggi said in a news release. “At this stage, Olivia Chow has taken a back seat. As Ford appears to pick up steam, she must find a way to keep her supporters from strategic voting.”
