Being REALLY new to this industry, we're always looking to learn. We discussed this yesterday and came to a decision to give the SP the choice to pay for the pictures up front, in which case they are hers to do with as she chooses or have us pay for them and she can pay us back at her convenience, in which case if she leaves prior to paying for them, we'll stop using them, but she doesn't get the pictures without our watermark. That's about a fair a deal as anyone can ask for.

This made me feel great to read, its awesome that your agency had a conversation about it. I think you came to a really cool conclusion

In a bit I will send you 'redlines' of some of your text. I dont know if you are editing on the go, but if I reiterate some of the excellent points above, I apologize.

First, I just wanted to share some general thoughts on the power of language and how to face the ENEMY.

1) Do NOT let the enemy :grrrrrr:define jargon. For example, always challenge the "selling" their bodies term. My fav SPs prefer the term "leasing'. For sure 'selling' is slavery by another name.

2) Up-grade/control the jargon (obviously the latter is a long term goal). We often use the term 'girls' and hopefully most of us without any derogatory connotation. BUT to many it connotes 'child' and the conflation of children and adult free-choice sex workers is one of the enemy's deadliest weapons. "WOMEN" (I am trying harder). Men like Perrin are "Condescending Patriarchs:bad:".

3) Why edit something once when you can do it three times? (best the next morning). As a happy HUBGFE:drunk:, I obviously do NOT follow this. But, if you are trying to change the world- hone your weapons!

4)AVOID using "I", especially at the start of a sentence. Use 'WE' whenever reasonable.

If my redlines seem extreme, you should see what I do to my own writing (when being serious)!

1) I struggled with this. I don't even consider an escort's body as available for lease - sexual activity means the man takes possession of the body during the sexual act?! - obviously the selling/renting/leasing bodies analogy is flawed. The issue is that I'd like to keep the language as accessible to as many women as possible and using common vernacular phrases encourages that. In the same way I've edited out overly academic words a few times (and need to do so a few more). Its a balance I haven't quite found yet.

2) I edited out girls everywhere except the letters. It is definitely condescending. Its also the wording that was used when I started and its been a consistant problem for me to avoid writing anything about the industry, thanks for catching that.

3) Very little editing has been done. I hate polishing something just to rip the idea behind it apart: better to have a solid idea then edit 3 times. I will be re-visiting every word carefully more times than I`ll admit I do.

4) I tried for facts backed up by 'I' statements. I am not all sex workers and I cannot speak for all sex workers. I think we statements would be inappropriate?

There's nothing wrong with referring to women as "girls", it's the same as calling men "boys". It's usually done in a playful and friendly manner, not condescending.
It's the same with "gals" which has become incorrect yet "guys" is fine. This makes women appear too sensitive and earnest, a sad consequence of the march to equality.

Thanks I've been slacking; I haven't worked on it in 6 months. Every time I think I've finally learned everything there is to know I find out I'm not missing one little piece of information but a HUGE one. Or worse, several pieces of information or what I thought was grotesquely misinformed.

I guess that's something else that keeps life interesting, and this 'world' in particular. I really am lucky that I can be involved in something I enjoy so much
