These weapons engineers all grew up watching fucking James Bond shit. Now they are making it come true.
 
The only issue is they need to laze the target so the bullet can track to it. If they had (and I'm sure they'll get around to it) a photo-electric eye that captures an image of the target then tracks it would be much better.

I hate to break it to you but they're also working on rail guns (that use an energy pulse instead of a projectile) and solid fuel bullets that have no recoil and far superior accuracy over long ranges.

I have an idea for a pulse rifle that uses the same technology as electricity travelling through wires....just wish I had the engineering to make it happen.

The thing about projectile based weapons is the amount of energy consumed to produce the projectile, then the "charge" to send it on it's way. Take a bullet for example: you have to mine the raw material, smelt it to make the lead for the bullet. You have to mine the ore and smelt it to produce the brass for the cartridge. You have to produce the gun powder, primer etc. Then you have to assemble it all into a "round". Then you have to load it into a magazine (which needs to be manufactured) and then load that whole assembly into the rifle.

Then after firing, you throw away the brass casing which makes up about half the "round".

My idea does away with the projectile, and the energy used to produce and distribute it.....
