Set Her Straight Father Makes His 10 Year Old Daughter Apologize For Stealing.............

Don't really agree with his tactics but I get his point and hope the embarrassment will set her straight for life.

They say that parents need to allow their children deal with the consequences of their own action. Instead parents tend to take over depriving their children of any opportunity to learn from their mistakes.

If they don't experience consequences for their poor choices and actions from their parents, they will eventually learn it from teachers, law enforcement or future employers. Better to learn as a child imo.

Good on the parents! Too many of them adopt the "Not my Johnny" attitude today, teaching their kids the wrong values.

I have a 45 yr old baby half brother whose drinking problem is slowly but surely ruining his life and negatively impacting those around him. Our mother completely enables him rather than cracking down on him. When he was young and living at home she'd occasionally help him pay his cell phone bill, even though he was working. More recently she's helped him pay off his credit card debt. This after his ex wife helped him arrange a loan to pay off his credit card debt cheaper when they were first together. When he separated he couldn't wait a couple of months for the sale of the house to finalize to buy a new (not previously owned) car, so she gave him the money for a down payment. When he recently, and I might add, finally got caught drinking and driving she paid his impound fees, etc. despite him having some money from the sale of the house, or should I say exes house. He's been residing with our mom since the separation and she told me she doesn't feel right charging him any rent/room and board. I told her under no uncertain terms should he live with her for free and she didn't charge him anything for his birthday month as a gift. She's willed him her house and most of her assets because according to her he'll never own one on his own or have any. This is just the stuff I know about. He plays the victim and she comes to his rescue
every time for some unforeseen reason(s).

No, I don't think they were too tough on her!

A little too harsh, imo. Yes, I like that the father took action and made her responsible for her actions, but he could have down it differently. Fact remains, if a child feels loved and wanted and valued, seldom will they act out. This child might again act out in retaliation for the embarrassment she endured. Making someone pay for their actions/bad behavior, is good, and one thing, but knowing and understanding why they committed that behavior is the only way to be assured it or worse won't be repeated.Kids will do things like that for attention sometimes, whether the attention they get is negative or positive. The father seems pretty harsh, so who knows, maybe this was a cry for affection from her father.
