France has opened its first ever sex doll brothel in Paris. The club comes after England opened its first sex doll brothel in Gateshead earlier this year.
At the moment, only a handful of different dolls are available — silicone working girls known as “XDolls.” Per Forbes, for around US $110, you can book an hour with the doll of your choice through the brothel’s website. A two-hour solo visit will run you around $185. If you’d like to share the experience as a couple, it’ll run you around $150 for one hour.
According to UK Metro, the sex doll craze has taken Europe by storm. As reported by the outlet, a new survey claimed one in five Germans would like a robot sex doll and more than one in 20 said they could fall in love with one.
Other sex doll brothels have opened in Barcelona, Vienna and the German city of Dortmund — and a pop up sex doll brothel even opened in Amsterdam’s red light district last week.
The Amsterdam brothel was opened by presenters of controversial TV show “Spuiten en Slikken” (“Shoot and Swallow”), which is about drugs and sex. The presenters tried to get tourists to have sex with one of the dolls for $37 to find out if the world is ready to have sex with a doll and to see if it feels similar to having sex with a real human being.
Thijs Verheij of “Spuiten en Slikken” said, “Scientists state that in 30 years it will be very normal to have sex with a robot. With this experiment we want to run ahead of this and investigate how people see it now.”
Not everyone is convinced that the craze will lead to an increase in brothel visits though.
As reported by UK Metro, Oliver Bendel, a computer and business scientist who looks into machine ethics, said this will remain a niche trend. Austrian psychologist Gerti Senger explained that the reason why some men are more interested in interacting with sex dolls instead of human women is because elements of convention and consent go by the wayside.
Forbes wrote: “While the prospect of replacing human sex workers with inhuman replacements may seem outrageous now, this shift into an increasingly high-tech approach to sex may well be part of an ongoing trend that will only increase as time moves forward. With technology as a conduit, fantasies once restricted to the imagination can become a reality.
And in a world where consent has become an increasingly fraught issue in sex, non-human partners may provide individuals with an alternative: a partner that doesn’t judge your desires, has no desires of her own, and will never say no, unless, of course, you say so.”
