I was biting my tongue (well, fingers, actually) not wanting to post such a comment.

There are many possible ways to battle cancer, but remember cancer is not "a" disease but thousands of diseases that refer to cell mutation. A single cure for all is unlikely unless we can disrupt the mutation process followed by aggressive growth, which is certainly the wish we all have, but unlikely in reality. We live in hope, though...

Targetted treatments tend to attack either a particular type of cancerous cell, destroying it through interfereing with the way it multiplies (gene blocking, enzyme attacks, etc) or by attacking the fundamental replication process (again, enzyme attack or gene blocking). Progress is being made on both angles, but the chances of a miraculous cure is low: this type of research requires patience, detailed observations, and elimination of all possible variants. Do I believe we'll find a single cure? No. Do I believe we'll find taregtted cures that handle most cases? Yes! Will it be soon? I hope, but doubt...

I live in Buffalo and Roswell Park is one of the oldest Cancer Research centers and they did not build it here because land was cheap.
