I can't use anything toxic or medical on my dog because of her immune disorder, yet I've been told about and have bought food grade diatomaceous earth, I sprinkle it on her bedding and on her fur. It is said to kill ticks and fleas and other insects. Probably not as effective as other things, but it has no known side effects, or none that I've been told of. So far so good. Ticks are becoming a huge problem in my area.

Remember you too need protection.....Just a walk in the grass and you can pick them up.

When I was a kid in Vancouver the teachers had regular seminars on how to check and deal with tics so we learned at a very young age to check moist areas of your body for anything unusual. I had one once under the waist band of my underwear my mother took a hot needle and burnt it out I guess she'd go to jail for that today

I first heard of this when I read that singer Neneh Cherry was diagnosed in the 80's.

I remember thinking what the hell is Lyme disease? I sure know what it is now.

^Thanks Maurice, keep in mind too, that blood tests, much of the way it's discovered and diagnosed, can sometimes read false negatives. So if you have symptoms, yet your blood test say your negative, or your pet is negative, wait for a few weeks, then retest. If you find a tick on you or your pet, you can take it to your vet and they can test it and tell you if it is carrying lyme.
