Stray bullet kills 9-year-old boy in Brampton, Ont.

A nine-year-old boy was killed by a stray bullet that passed through the window of a townhouse in Brampton, Ont., on Wednesday night.
Police have identified the victim as Kesean Williams, a student at nearby Winston Churchill Public School. The school's flag was flying at half-mast on Thursday morning, and members of the Peel District School Board’s "critical incident response team" were providing counselling support, a letter sent to parents said.
Police responded just after 10:45 p.m. Wednesday to a townhouse complex at Ardglen Drive, near Kennedy Road South and Clarence Street, in Brampton, about 40 kilometres northwest of Toronto.
The boy was rushed to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children. Police announced Thursday he had died. There are unconfirmed reports he was struck in the head.

"This is obviously heartbreaking when we have a victim of this age," said Rob Higgs, Peel Regional Police acting inspector. "We'll be putting all of our resources into finding the people responsible for this."
Peel Regional Police stopped a taxi near the residence and three young men were seen handcuffed at the scene.
Police said they are interviewing several people who were near the townhouse at the time of the shooting.
There is no word yet on charges.
In the letter home to parents, Winston Churchill principal Kristin Bergen said that Kesean was a well-liked student.
"We have set up a memorial table in the foyer where anyone can go to write messages of remembrance and condolence," the letter said. "In the meantime, we will continue to support each other."
The young boy started attending Winston Churchill in September. A memorial has been set up inside the school.

I have no doubt that Peel Regional will be all over this and the perpetrator will be apprehended quickly.

This will however not bring back a little boy who's life was prematurely extinguished. So sad.

I know gun advocates and the anti gun establishment would both like to see a very harsh penalty given out in this case.

This is unacceptable in our community.

If its a gang related shooting two points, 1)its likely to be an underage shooter but as in the Creba shooting that does not necessarily prevent the courts from sentencing the perp as an adult, 2) I think that no amount of gun control is going to be able to eliminate gang shootings.

4. If it is a YO, they will be charged as an adult and would do adult time as long as it falls under the sentencing guilelines that an adult would receive 5 years or more.
