If I got a dog I would name him Jarvis and only use Kraft smooth

Great links Admiral! Thanks! MAL, do some more research as medium sized and don't shed too much aren't really enough to go on. I spent a year researching dogs and preparing my kids and analyzing our lifestyle before trimming my choices down to a Yorkie and Shih Tzu. I'd started my search for a husky and ended up with a teacup Yorkie...go figure!

You should also research the temperaments of the various breeds so you get one that suits your household.

I want a dog that is quiet as well. My wife is scared of dogs, so I need a dog that isn't too aggressive. The dog has to accept and like Asians. I was thinking of a poodle. But I worry poodles tend to bark too much.

Little dogs are yappy. If you introduce the dog as a little puppy your wife will grow to love it.
I need a pet but I hate picking up dog poop. Think about it, who is really the master? The dog never picks up our steamy load but the dog craps and in we go with the plastic bag.

MAL, all ribbing aside, think VERY carefully please before you pull the trigger on a dog. You have to imagine how the dog will fit into your home, and what sorts of lifestyle changes will occur. Then, you have two real choices: rescue dog or registered breeder. Please do not patronize puppy pounds!

I've been around all types of dogs all my life, am very involved in rescue and know many breeders. Most who are unfamiliar with dog behavior, or dogs in general, will scoff at this, but the pit bull is the best breed of dog out there. Friendly, easily trained, strong, loyal, few health issues and all the shit you hear about them is either over exaggerated or man made( caused by a person). Most dog issues are man made. There is no breed that "barks to much", that is like saying there is a race of humans that talk to much. Dogs are what *you* make them. Certain breeds have specific characteristics, yes, but a dog is a dog. If you get a "working dog" such as a border collie, beagle, husky, etc, you'll end up with a barker, chewer, or a dog with issues if you don't allow it to do a job. Certain types of breeds need a lot of activity and a purpose. Just being a pet isn't enough for them. Larger, rare breeds, such as the Cane Corso, Dogue de bourdeaux, Argentine Dogo, Boerboel,Tosa inu, should have an experienced owner. No matter what breed you choose, there are many to be found in rescue, all breeds have rescue organizations looking for good owners offering permanent homes.
But no matter where or from whom you get a dog, think, plan and prepare. A dog can live for many years, 18, if you're lucky, and they deserve an owner who will keep them safe, healthy but most of for all their life and they're not cheap. You may need to spend hundreds or 10's of thousands throughout their life. Any dog deserves good health care and if you don't have pet insurance you may have some very pricey vet bills, this too I've learned from experience. So if you're just getting by, or on a budget, get fish, or something that'll only live a few years like a rodent, who make wonderful pets also. All in all, any pet deserves proper health care if it will extend their life, money should never be a reason to put a pet down. So again, think before you buy!
Btw most people that are allergic to dogs are allergic to something in the urine, skin, saliva, it's not because they shed, ask a dermatological vet to explain, they'll explain it better than I

In my case it's the fur around their mouths, so I think its a combination of their saliva and fur. I first noticed it with my old dogs...pomeranians. After I'd moved out a few years whenever I went home to visit, I'd have a bit of rash on my hands and sometimes face. I don't have this problem with my dog now, so looks like I make a good choice.
Totally agree with everything else you said. Dogs are more a part of the family than a pet, and anyone who doesn't feel that way about their dog probably should revisit their reasons for wanting one in the first place. As for pit bulls, I've seen some very friendly ones and I've seen some very aggressive ones. So I agree, it's all up to the owner. I'm not as familiar with MAL as some of you here are, but after seeing some of his posts, and seeing some of his personality show through, I shudder at the thought of him having a pit bull. Maybe a ferret would be a better pet?

Pitbulls are not suitable dogs. I would be irresponsible to let a pitbull around my wife. Pit Bulls were bred to fight and they have a much stronger bite than an average dog. They also don't release when they bite. I would end up killing the dog in all likelihood. I would never let a dog live after it attacked someone.

Boston terriers were bred to fight, I don't hear anyone dissing them.Please educate yourself before you speak. In all honesty, I think you need to resolve your personal issues and you and your wives before you add anything to that mix!!
